Pumpkin Pie Latte Flip

If you love pumpkin spice anything, this is going to be your new favourite cocktail. Pumpkin spice syrup mixed with our Winter Spice gin is a match made in cocktail heaven!

What is a flip? Simply put, it's a cocktail that contains liquor, egg, and sugar, shaken together and served without ice. There are many deviations of a flip, and if you're curious to learn more, click here.

This cocktail is definitely a deviation from the modern standard, although it does contain the 3 core ingredients, it also has diary and some citrus. We wanted to create a complex, but balanced, rich and silky cocktail that emulates the flavours of pumpkin pie. Let's get shake'n!

The Cocktail:

1.5 oz Winter Spice Gin

0.75 oz Cold brew coffee

0.5 oz Egg white

0.25 oz Orange juice

0.5 oz Cream (sub Eggnog, milk or diary-free milk)

Garnish:

Dash of Angostura bitters

Whipped Cream

Add all the ingredients together into a shaker tin with ice and shake vigorously. We're actually going to double shake the liquid. This means, after you've given the cocktail a good 20 second shake, strain out the liquid into a mixing jar or one side of the shaker tin (of a boston shaker). Dump out all the spent ice. Add back a single ice cube and shake again for 20-25 s. Strain the liquid into your cocktail glass (preferable a couple, but a highball glass would also work).

Garnish with a few dashes of angostura bitter. Feel free to get creative with frothy latte art. You also have the not-so-optional garnish of whipped cream, if you want the full pumpkin pie effect.

But how do you make pumpkin spice syrup? Keep ready for our recipe!

Pumpkin Spice Syrup:

1 can of pumpkin puree

Equal parts brown sugar and water

(use the can as a measuring tool)

1 tbsp pumpkin spice blend

Pumpkin spice blend can be pre-bought or we like using this raw spice blend:

2 roughly muddled cinnamon sticks

1 tsp whole Allspice berries

1 roughly muddled nutmeg

1 pod of Star Anise

2 muddled cloves

In a pot or saucepan, toast the raw spice blend for 2-3 minutes to bring out their oils and break them down. Add in equal parts water, sugar and pumpkin puree. Continually stir the mixture until it comes to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat after 30 seconds. Strain hot liquid through a fine mesh strainer. Use a spoon to assist the sieving process. Transfer the syrup into a sanitized storage vessel. Put in fridge to cool before use.
