When it comes to classic cocktails, the Old Fashioned is a staple. But here at Confluence Distilling, we like to put our own spin on the classics while still staying true to the simplicity and origin, and Ross’ Old Fashioned is no exception.
This cocktail incorporates our award-winning Mandarino Amaro, adding a refreshing citrus complexity that compliments the smoothness of the whisky. With just a hint of honey and a dash of bitters, this cocktail offers the perfect balance of bitter and sweet.
- 0.5 oz Confluence Mandarino Amaro
- 2 oz Blended Whisky
- 0.25 oz Honey Syrup (1:1 ratio of honey and water)
- 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
- Ice
- Orange peel for garnish
Combine the Ingredients: In a mixing glass, add the Mandarino Amaro, whisky, honey syrup, and Angostura bitters.
Stir It Up: Add ice and stir for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute the cocktail slightly, which helps mellow the flavours.
Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture into a rocks glass over a large ice cube to maintain a slow, even melt.
Garnish: Express the oils from an orange peel over the glass by twisting it gently, then place it into the drink for a zesty aromatic finish.
Fun fact: The official origin of the Old Fashioned is heavily debated, but the prevailing story is that the drink first appeared in the early 1800s, but the name came about in the mid-1800s in response to more complicated cocktails that were becoming popular at the time.
Cheers
